Did you run in college?
Yes, two years at SRJC (cross country) and one year at CSU, Chico (cross country).

What are you doing now?
I continued running after college and ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 1998. I now have two daughters and my eldest has taken an interest in running. It's funny to see things come full-circle.

What lesson of life did running teach you (if any)?
It certainly kept me focused and introduced me to a lot of good friends along the way.

What are you doing now?
Medicinal chemist at a small biotech company.

Please share your favorite memory from Cross Country.
My favorite memory was league finals in '99 when I finished 2nd after being 24th the prior year.

What do you remember most about your coach?
I remember the guys team would go run about a half mile from the track towards the creek and end up hanging out at the park for their "run" while I was out on the creek running.

What lesson of life did running teach you (if any)?
I personally wouldn't call it a life lesson, but more a way of life. Whether your in the front of the pack or back it really doesn't matter because as a runner you are testing yourself everyday. Not only does running build character, but you feel like their are no obstacles that can't be overcome.

California State University Sacramento

Did you run in college?
Yes! When I was a sophomore at Piner I saw a photo of local running great Dan Aldridge running for the Santa Rosa Junior College and from then on I wanted to be a Bear Cub. I only worked up to seventh man in cross country and ran decent in track but it was being coached by Pat Ryan and running there with other Piner alumni greats including Brian Hoyt, Jeanette & Carol DuBay, John von Seeburg, Jon Kruger, Greg Fogg, Chris Smith and Steve Schram (aka Sch”RAMBO” – No Man, No War, No Runner could stop him!) that was the real highlight of participating in college.

What are you doing now?
Live in Vacaville (CA) and work for the City of Fairfield as a Program Coordinator for the Community Services & Parks Department.

Anything else you would like to share?
In 1976 at the North Coast Section Championships in which Piner won all of the school’s cheerleaders came out and supported the cross country team. That was really COOL as we knew then that they were cheerleaders for all Piner students and not just for basketball and football teams. Of course, we ran much faster as we couldn’t wait to get to the finish line and talk with them.

We challenged the football players to switch workouts with us since they gave us gruff at times. We’d wear the pads and do their workouts but they had to run over to HP hill and do repeats up Parker Hill road like we did (a workout totaling close to 7 or 8 miles) but we never got any takers. Don’t remember any football

Not at the moment

What are you doing now?
I am working at Mountian Home Ranch and am also attending SRJC.

Please share your favorite memory from Cross Country.
I always liked joking and talking with my team mates and coach before and after races and practices.

What do you remember most about your coach?
He was fun to talk with and made practice enjoyable, but also put us to work. He made the whole experience much more memorable, fun, and profitable for running.

What lesson of life did running teach you (if any)?
Running has taught me that one should not give up because the finish line will always be there until you cross it, it all depends if you are proud of yourself when you get to the other side.

Anything else you would like to share?
Whoever said they did not want to join cross country because it was to hard and boring was wrong on two fronts. While it was hard it was very rewarding and fun and there was never a dull moment while I was on the team whether I was running alone on a trail in the outdoors or talking with my team mates.

What do you remember most about your coach?
Coach Underhill is a mentor and one cool dude! A true sportsman and role model for all of us who had the fortune to be trained by him.
